Ariat's Big Rig Chelsea Waterproof Soft Toe Boot features ATS® technology to provide you with ergonomic support on uneven terrain. The DRYShield™ waterproof construction keeps your feet dry while the durable oil- and slip-resistant Duratread™ sole keeps you steady. Comfort features include a removable Energy Max™ anti-fatigue insole for maximum comfort and a Goodyear welt construction outsole accented by a flared outsole design with debris-releasing tread. The elastic twin gore entry and back pull tab deliver a roomier opening and deeper scallop to accommodate high insteps and wider calves. Not an accurate fit.

He normally wears a size 17 medium which is what I thought I was getting. My son loved them, but too large and way too wide

The Ariat Big Rig Chelsea is only made in Wide and Extra Wide widths. If your son needs a medium width, we can definitely suggest some other styles. We would also be happy to help determine the best size - some brands are not true to size so depending on the brand he wears size 17 in we can make some recommendations.
